Strawberry boasting the world record!
We are all familiar with the Guinness World Records system that tracks and keeps record of outstanding accomplishments marked as the best in the world. Some crowds take the breaking of records very seriously, therefore there are strict governances in place to maintain high standards around breaking a world record.
As we know, the categories can sometimes be quite bizarre – even including the heaviest strawberry grown.
When it comes to size and weight, we must celebrate Israeli Ariel Chahi who holds the Guinness World Record for growing an oversized strawberry weighing an astounding 289 g on 12 February 2021.
The officials of Guinness World Record confirmed the strawberry as the heaviest, measuring in at 18 cm long and 34 cm in circumference.
Ariel Chahi is in the strawberry business, and this extraordinary strawberry was grown on his family farm in Kadima-Zoran, Israel.
To put the weight of 289 g of the world’s heaviest strawberry into perspective, one can keep in mind that the average cellphone weighs around 100g less than this monster of a strawberry.
When explaining the unusually enormous growth of this record-breaking strawberry, Chahi explained that the strawberry started developing slowly in cold weather conditions for around 45 days from flowering. The conditions led to multiple berries fusing together to form this one large strawberry.
Apart from the record-breaking fruit, weighing in at 289 g, there were three other sizable strawberries in the same crop.
The previous record for world’s heaviest strawberry was held by Koji Nakao from Japan. The strawberry weighed in at 250 g, in Fukuoka, Japan, on 28 January 2015.
It is a worldwide honour to break and hold a Guinness World Record.
