South African strawberries for the export market

South African grown strawberries are being exported to various countries around the world, with the main countries being the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates and other Asian countries.

Most exported strawberries are produced in the Western Cape province. The strawberry season in South Africa typically runs from September to April, with the peak harvest period occurring between October and December.

According to the International Trade Centre (ITC), in 2020, South Africa exported approximately 10,300 metric tons of fresh strawberries, valued at about $23 million USD.

The South African strawberry export market has been growing steadily over the years, thanks to favorable growing conditions, modern cultivation techniques, and strong demand from international markets.

In addition to fresh strawberries, South Africa also exports processed strawberry products, such as frozen berries, jams, and juices. These products are popular with consumers who prefer the convenience and longer shelf life of processed foods.
