Strawberries & Antioxidants

Last week I mentioned that strawberries can play a role in maintaining heart health! Now how does that work?

Firstly – strawberries are high in antioxidants such as vitamin C (as mentioned in my first post). Just to remind you: antioxidants donate electrons to free radicals (scavenger molecules) therefore antioxidants prevent these free radicals causing cell damage by “stealing” electrons from healthy cells.

The royal strawberry offer far and beyond antioxidant protection than just from vitamin C! Compounds known as Phytonutrients provide powerful antioxidant activity in the body, preventing tissue damage in organs such as the heart. These phytonutrients has also shown to have anti-inflammatory actions by protecting arteries from inflammatory damage.
