The Vitamin C found in strawberry is good for the eye health, especially in children. Another reason why strawberries are the perfect snack, or addition to their diets. The vitamin C protects kids eyes from the free radicals of nature, which are the most important reason for almost all problems related to the eyes.  In addition, vitamin C also promotes the health of the blood vessels throughout the entire body, including the retina’s delicate capillaries. Research shows that vitamin C may help you avoid age-related macular degeneration and keeping the corneas safe from cataracts.

One study on vitamin C for cataracts showed that this nutrient may reduce a person’s risk of the progression of their cataracts by a third. In this study, more than 1000 sets of female twins were observed. Around age 60, the participants underwent digital imaging to look at their eye lens opacity. A follow-up was performed 10 years later on 324 pairs of the twins. They also answered a questionnaire regarding their diet and nutrient intake. Researchers concluded vitamin C aided in the slowed progression of cataracts.

The vitamin C in strawberries are found to be potentially beneficial for age-related macular degeneration. Macular degeneration causes loss in the center of the field of vision. In dry macular degeneration, the center of the retina deteriorates. With wet macular degeneration, blood vessels grow under the retina.  Blurred vision is a key symptom. Adding strawberries to your diet on a regular basis could slow down this aging process. High quality supplements can be taken, but for this condition it is best to get vitamin C from dietary intake. Vitamin C was mostly explored in people who already had macular degeneration. It showed promise in helping to reduce the progression to the later stages of the condition.
